Hi all,

the Berlin Center for Genomics in Biodiversity Reseach (BeGenDiv)  and
the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und Materialprüfung are looking
for a master student interested in working on a genome analysis project.
We are offering a six months student assistant position (Studentische
Hilfskraft) for 40 hours per month and the possibility to continue the
project as a master thesis.

Here are some more details on the project:
Melanised microcolonial fungi (MCF) are a group of fungi that are
extremely resistant to environmental stresses including radiation,
desiccation and extreme heat. As a result they are able to colonize
surfaces that are exposed to these conditions like rocks, cliffs,
building facades and solar panels. In combination with other microbes
they from a biofilm in these surfaces and cause characteristic coloring
and weathering.

Knufia petricola is a suitable model organism from this family and has
been cultivated and studied. In this project its full genome will be
assembled and annotated. Sequencing is finished and a preliminary
assembly and annotation has been conducted.
The following data is available:
- 2x coverage with 454 reads
- 300x coverage with Illumina paired-end reads
- 30x coverage with PacBio long reads
- Illumina RNA-Seq reads for gene annotation
