The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin

is looking to employ

a student assistant (up to 60 hours per month) for the Research IT, to
work on digital solutions for research in the history of science,
limited until September 30th, 2018, with the possibility of extension.

You will work on the realisation of web applications and digital
prototypes involving image analysis, GIS and data visualisation, network
analysis and linked data applications. In addition you will assist in
project planning, event organisation and communication (trainings,
talks, workshops, etc.).

Your specific tasks and responsibilities will depend on your prior
experience and your ability to acquire relevant knowledge in a
self-directed manner.

Your profile:
•	Enrolled at a university in Berlin or Brandenburg (min. third semester)
•	Highly organised
•	Good communication skills (German and English)
•	Interested in Digital Humanities

Desired skills:
•	Coding experience in JavaScript, Python, R or similar
•	Prototyping skills (paper-based or using Adobe Experience Design,
UXPin or similar)
•	Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and bash scripting
•	Familiarity with databases (SQL and Graph databases)
•	Familiarity with Linked Data
•	Experience in one or more topics of Digital Humanities (digital
editions, data visualisation, scholarly databases, language processing,
machine learning, image processing, etc.)

The salary is paid according to the rates for student employment in the
frame of the Max Planck Society’s program to support junior scientists.
