Research Associate for the Project
"Argumentation in Comparative Question
Answering (DFG)" § 28 subsection 3 HmbHG

of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).

full-time position suitable for part-time
Responsibilities:
Duties include academic services in the project named
above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further
academic qualifications.
Specific Duties:
The candidate shall independently conduct project tasks in the DFG project ACQUA (see: https://www.inf.unihamburg.
de/en/inst/ab/lt/research/acqua.html) within the SPP RATIO (see: http://www.spp-ratio.de), in particular the creation and
validation of methods for the extraction of argument structures on text and their application to web-scale indices. The project has been
extended after a very successful first phase; two previous position holders obtained assistant professorships while working on this
project.
Further duties include the publication and self-reliant presentation of results, coordination tasks with our project partners in Halle/Saale
and the SPP coordinators in Bielefeld, and administrative activities in the working group.
Opportunity will be given to pursue own research interests
Requirements:
A university degree in a relevant field plus doctorate.
Preference will be given to candidates with a
completed PhD in Computer Science with specialization in Computational
Linguistics/Speech
Technology or comparable. We expect extensive experience
with modern machine learning methods for language technology applications
in
the area of text classification, sequence tagging, and structured
prediction. Experience with the implementation and deployment of
robust
methods for semantic classification of text, especially argument structure
recognition, semantic role labeling, (frame) semantic
parsing, or similar
approaches is desired. Experience in supervising undergraduate students a
plus.
