Liebe Kommilitonen,

The BrainModes group, Dept. of Neurology,
Charité – University Medicine and Bernstein Center Berlin is offering:

    Student assistant position in Berlin
within 'BrainModes App' and 'The Virtual Brain' (with M.Sc. thesis
opportunity)

Starting date: As soon as possible
Contact: PD Dr. Petra Ritter, petra.ritter at charite.de

Your profile:

- You are studying computer science, informatics or a related field.
- You have excellent programming skills and are interested in solving
technical and neuroscientific issues.
- Strong interest in developing a smartphone application
- Team player, ability to work in a team of researchers, engineers and
designers with heterogeneous backgrounds
- Strong communication skills in English

Required skills:

- Good programming skills (C++, Objective-C, JavaScript/Java),
alternatively a very high motivation to acquire those skills
- Interest for didactic preparation and 3D visualization of
neuroscientific and mathematical issues
- Experience with Xcode iOS SDK and familiarness with multi-platform
frameworks such as Appmethod and Meteor would be a great plus.

Who we are:

We are a multidisciplinary (neuroscience, bioinformatics, mathematics)
and international (DE, CA, FR etc.) research group focusing on complex
brain activity. By combining advanced multimodal neuroimaging and
computational modeling we aim to identify generative mechanisms of
ongoing neuronal dynamics. Among other projects, we are currently
developing the BrainModes App, a mobile app to read and process brain
signals, using commercial EEG head sets.

What we offer:

- Possibility of doing master's thesis research or working towards a
doctorate, publication opportunity also as predoc
- Chance to work on an established software project in a comprehensive
multidisciplinary emerging field with latest technologies (i.a. BCI head
sets)
- Excellent research and computing infrastructure within Charité and the
PROFUND startup incubator at Freie Universität Berlin
- Exciting and friendly environment
- Student assistant salary on the basis of a contract with 40 to 80
hrs/month

Your task:

Supporting the development of the BrainModes App. Collaborating in other
projects related to The Virtual Brain (http://thevirtualbrain.org), the
first open neuroinformatics platform for full brain network simulation
based on individual anatomical connectivity data. We develop a
state-of-the-art brain computer interface based application for
neurofeedback in order to give users the ability to recognize their
brain and discover brain state characterizing unique patterns such as
relaxation and productivity with a game-oriented approach. By building a
model of the user's own brain with a standardized empirical data
processing pipeline, detailed visualizations of brain activity enables
users to learn about how their brain works and they gain a novel
experience about their brain.

If you are interested, please contact us (petra.ritter at charite.de) with
your CV and a short statement of your research interests and background
in smartphone app development or informatics/comp. neuroscience.
