The CERN Library [http://library.cern.ch <http://library.cern.ch/>] is
searching for an dynamic and enthusiastic new colleague. We serve a
scientific community of over 10'000 researchers from 85 countries,by
offering specialized collections of journals, books, reports and
standards. These collections are available as physical media and,
increasingly, in electronic form. We also curate the CERN Institutional
Repository, CDS [http://cds.cern.ch <http://cds.cern.ch/>], which
comprises scientific manuscripts; an archive of CERN documents;
educational and increasingly multimedia content. The CERN Library
collaborates with other research centres to build INSPIRE
[http://www.projecthepinspire.net <http://www.projecthepinspire.net/>],
the next-generation digital library for High-Energy Physics; and it
plays a leading role in promoting Open Access publishing through the
SCOAP3 project [http://scoap3.org <http://scoap3.org/>].

The successful candidate will be fully integrated in the activities of
our team, will report to the Head of Library Services and will initially
take responsibility for:
· leading the ingestion of new metadata in the library catalogue and
selected collections within CDS and INSPIRE, managing their quality
assurance and providing guidance and direction to cataloguers; ·
researching and proposing solutions for the continued optimisation of
cataloguing workflows;
· streamlining and innovating the acquisition processes, in particular
for books and e-books; · overseeing the quality assurance of library
services, participating to the supervision of staff and students/interns.

We require:
· university education, preferably in a scientific discipline, and
formal library qualifications;
· in-depth knowledge of library services in a research or university
library; · sound knowledge of relevant information resources, preferably
within the field of physics; · proven ability for creative, innovative
and analytical thinking, leading to the implementation of practical
solutions; · flexibility to adapt to the new challenges of the evolving
information environment; · ability to work within a multi-disciplinary
team; · willingness to take on responsibilities and ability to take
initiative, supervise staff and work independently;
· excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate in both
written and oral forms.

What we offer:
· Contract duration: five years, with one year probation. Subject to
certain conditions, an indefinite contract may be granted during this
period.
· Financial conditions: Competitive tax-free staff salaries are
calculated individually and are based on experience and qualifications.
Salaries are commensurate to the costs and standards of living in the
Geneva region.
· Leave: Staff members are entitled to 2.5 days paid leave per month,
plus two weeks at Christmas and additional paid leave for some local
holidays. · Benefits: Staff automatically join CERN's pension fund.
Staff and their dependents are covered by CERN's health insurance
scheme. Staff members are entitled to installation grant, family
